I might have a method, but it's naughty~. I don't think you'd really like it. It's a little underhanded...
[It's theft. He's talking about stealing. Can he get a covered wagon like this? Oh yes, he sure can, he's probably stolen bigger things. What're they gonna do, catch him? Ain's too slippery.]
I'll just be a good boy instead! [but also consider: he'll make his life more difficult.]
[...this guy is going to be the death of him, and they still have a long trip ahead of them together. Just the two of them.
Oy.
He lifts a hand and brushes his fingers over where Ain kissed him as he watches him leave for his dinky little shack, silently thinking that he's glad it's so far out from the rest of the town. It's kindof dangerous, for him to be out here all by himself.
Why does he care, when he's just going to throw him in prison? He...
...he doesn't know.
Wolfwood heads back to the Inn (Angelina whinnies at him loudly as she sees him pass by like WHERE DID YOU GO >:|) and barely gets any sleep. He tosses and turns for several hours before drifting off, his thoughts consumed by- who else- the spicy silver-haired prostitute he's gotten to know over the past couple of days. Eventually he manages to drift off, only to wake up an hour later panting, heart racing, because he dreamed about Ain riding him the same way he had two nights prior.
He chooses to suffer with an unbearable erection for another hour before finally giving up and finishing himself off, to the humiliating tune of coming in seconds.
He does not go back to bed, and ends up just getting up a couple hours even earlier than when he thinks Ain would have wanted to meet up outside the Inn, looking more than a little bedraggled.
[Ain gets up just before the sun comes up habitually, because his life is never calm and sleeping too late means risking getting caught, or not heading out on time, or things like that. He's used to it. One day he will settle down (lol) and sleep in for once and be like wow, this is the life, but that day is not today. He is hard-wired to get up at 6am when the sun is barely beginning to wake up itself, but that provides him the perfect opportunity to slink around the town and scope it out for the day.
Ah. There's a wagon on someone's property near to the main roadway. Surely they want to keep that wagon? Too bad. It means he doesn't have to try to buy one, either! Ain Suspiciously flits about that property for a while, wedging rocks and sticks into the barn door so they have to spend an hour or two fixing it when they go to let the animals out and causing general distracting mayhem. The front door of the house gets an entire fucking boulder (it's a small boulder) set in front of it, heavy enough to disrupt opening it. He does not glue the windows shut, but he does shove a stick between the shutters so they can't open up either.
All in all, sabotage completed, they will be back to collect this wagon. He's already got it ready for two horses to be quickly hooked up to it and has rolled it just slightly off the property, enough so people walking by will be like "oh no the wind got your wagon haha", but not enough for any good Samaritans to roll it back onto the property fully. He's sure Elria could pull this entire thing by herself since it's empty and she is, as stated, a fucking draft horse he's trained to kill — but Angelina helping would also be good.
Hopefully Wolfwood feels like committing a heist this morning.
Just as he's making his way to the inn does he spot a wanted poster, and he rips it off the wall and Elria snatches it from his hand and munches on it. Everyone else can stay wanted, he doesn't care, this is her daily snack.]
They've gotta get tired of printing those things eventually...
[Whatever, though, not his elephants not his circus. He pulls up to the inn walking with his horse in tow, looking off ahead to a bustling crowd swarming the morning market. Perfect.
Where is Wolfwood, is he outside? Because Ain is here grinning at him, dressed in pants again today. He is Not wearing a dress on a long journey.]
[You know what, Ain has got some balls because Wolfwood wasn't going to assume he was brave or bold enough to try to yoink someone's wagon for their trip. In the meantime, he's too distracted thinking about Ain's balls to consider that maybe Ain is a little more feral than he ever gave him credit for.
He is outside, as a matter of fact, leaning against Angelina's side and smoking a cigarette to wake himself up. He very nearly faceplants when she suddenly nickers and runs away from him, trotting over to Elria like hi hi hi sniffs you sniffs you nibbles on your hair.]
Mornin'. [Don't think about him naked don't think about him naked] You said you needed to pick up some stuff before we left, right?
[No, no, tell him about that dream you had Wolfwood, imagine him naked more. It's what he wants.
Elria is happy to have Friend back, she will nibble back. The horses are horsing, the girls are girling, and the boys... well the boys are in denial but that's okay.]
Some extra rations, yes. You have all your things, right? Because we're not coming back.
[Because Ain is about to do what they call a Crime, folks.]
The market is that way. In the morning, it's swarming with people, so there will be a bit of a crowd. Fresh fruits and the sort get sold, so people are all over it.
[They are walking that way. They'll have to leave the horses at the "entrance" to the outdoor market, of course, because otherwise the streets get way too crowded and the horses will definitely try to eat the produce and each other, but that's fine. That works better for Ain, who is a slippery little rat of a person.]
[He shrugs one shoulder, as if to show off the pack he has slung over it. It jingles audibly, because not only does it have some of his own dry rations leftover from the trip here, but also a bunch of travel cooking supplies like pots, skillets, utensils, and a few small bowls. He's got his gun and ammunition for defense and hunting, plenty of cigarettes and his lighter, a canteen for water...that sort of thing. He will probably pick up extra rations as well just to be safe since you never know what will happen on the road, but still.]
Makes sense. Just make sure not to get too much perishable shit unless you plan on eatin' it right away.
You don't have to tell me twice. I've been on the road since I was a teenager. Cute of you to worry, though.
[Off they trot! Or rather, off he and Wolfwood walk, while the horses trot behind and nomnomnom on each other. This is how the creatures show love.
They'll be parked out near some other horses for a little while Ain peruses. Wolfwood may or may not catch his sticky fingers in action depending on how hard he's scrutinizing Ain in the crowd. He'll pay for things legitimately, sure, but while he's paying his fingers have deftly snagged someone else's money. As they walk from stall to stall, the crowd affords Ain the opportunity to brush shoulders with people, something that's expected in a place this bustling — and when Wolfwood blinks, he's suddenly holding more coin than he was a moment ago.
This is how the trip goes. Ain is a very slippery little eel. The fresh fruit he grabs for both of them — two apples — is paid for in the same breath he swipes the coin back from the vendor. Truly evil. Truly heinous. But they get everything they'll need, and Ain triumphantly packs it into Elria's saddlebags.]
Wolfwood is, in fact, paying very close attention to Ain right now because...he's been going through it, alright, he can't help it. He's zeroed in on the guy as he watches him flit in and out among the people and the stalls, less focused on his own shopping and more on what Ain's doing. He actually misses it the first couple of times because he's just that good at this particular brand of sleight of hand, but once he knows what he's looking for...he realizes that Ain has been pickpocketing the crowd this entire time. Interesting that he's choosing to steal the money to pay with as opposed to just stealing the goods outright, but he supposes that makes it seem less obvious that's what's happening. If he's seen "buying" things, why would anyone have any reason to be suspicious of him?
Thing is, he has little qualms about it. He's a bandit after all, he and his gang do this exact same thing, albeit through a lot more openly violent means. They take what they want when they want it with no regard for who they might hurt in the process. They're just trying to survive, sure, but...that's the way it is in this world. Eat, or be eaten.
He doesn't say a word. He just keeps it in mind, knowing he's going to have to be extra careful around him from this point on. He's very smooth...and he wonders still just how much of the Ain he knows is fabricated. The Ain that he's becoming...]
[The fun thing about Ain is that his entire personality, other than the way he acts when he's on the job, is completely genuine. Of course, Wolfwood has a lot of reason to doubt that now that he's seen the little shit swiping everything in the vicinity; the assessment that he has an alibi if he pays for things fair and square is correct, though. The vendors don't have a problem with Ain, officers, he seemed like a fine young... gendered thing!
The things that he's hiding, though, hoo boy. Wolfwood only has 5% of the history there. Ain isn't inclined to share anything right now, since theoretically Wolfwood will be out of his hair somehow soon, and it's not like he needs people knowing that much about him.
Anyway, they're off to that property he scoped out this morning. He looks up at the barn in the distance and grins when the doors are still shut, grins and the rocks still in front of the door...
And fucking rapidly gets the horses lined up to be hooked up to this. The saddlebags get tossed into the back. They are heisting.]
[Somehow, he had a sneaking suspicion this is what they were leading up to...but stealing an entire covered wagon is a kind of boldness he would have expected from a seasoned bandit like himself, not a pickpocketer like Ain.
He falters for only a moment...before he laughs and hops into the wagon. Do you think he's going to neg Ain for stealing it, like a hypocrite? Maybe, perhaps...but not while they're in the act of taking the damn thing.]
You'd better not let my horse get shot.
[He warns as he clambers inside, with Angelina meanwhile like ????? because she hasn't pulled a wagon in a while. Is she pulling with Elria??]
[Elria is pulling with her, yep! And she will start trotting when Ain gives the word, so hopefully Angelina doesn't fight this or they're gonna have to abandon this plotline and that'll be annoying since Ain already punked the people who live in that house.]
Oh, don't worry, no one will know until we've left... and maybe for a while after that.
[No one's really questioning why someone's going through the back of town with a wagon. Like yeah, covered wagons come through sometimes, that's life, whatever.]
I spent the morning making sure they wouldn't be able to leave their house for a few hours. By the time they get outside and realise what I've done, we'll be long gone!
[It'll be real hard to track "a missing wagon" when like, 30 wagons go through town every day. Up the road they go, though, and presuming both horses cooperate...
Wolfwood will be allowed to sit at the front within half an hour. When they're far enough to be unheard, Ain starts singing a little travelling tune.
[Thankfully, Angelina isn't going to be difficult this time. She's a little confused at first, and at least once she tries to throw the thing off her back that connects her to the wagon, but after a moment of shushing her (and possibly a treat from Ain's pockets), she'll behave long enough to get hooked up to the wagon proper. Wolfwood, meanwhile, watches the town pass them by through a gap in the cloth as he keeps their things company, waiting until they're well out of town just like Ain suggested before he tries to climb up to the front.
There he plops himself, rummaging into the inside of his blazer to pull out a cigarette.]
I told you I've been on the road since I was a teenager. I do what I need to get by. Those people with their big property can afford another wagon easily. A mild inconvenience to them, [Ain you TRAPPED THEM IN THEIR HOUSE,] and a massive boon to us~!
[He leans into Wolfwood a little, playful, before sitting up fully to continue steering. It's gonna be a whole dawn til dusk type of situation here, they'll only stop a handful of times to let the horses have a drink and a break. This is how travelling works.]
I told you it was naughty, too. You said you didn't think I was a good boy, and I guess that's true.
[He says as Ain leans sideways into him, which prompts Wolfwood to remove his hat and once again plop it onto Ain's head.]
But I guess you do make a good point. Ridin' this far on just the horses would have been miserable as hell. This way, we can take turns drivin' and have breaks from the heat under the canopy.
[Plop! And Ain starts giggling, tilting the hat up a bit so it doesn't fall over his eyes again. Man, Wolfwood and his big head and his big hat.]
I've done it a million times before. It's harder, yeah, but it's not impossible. You do what you have to when you're a lone person travelling between towns.
[Wolfwood already knew why Ain moved around so much (it's the crime) but now he can double down on that thought (it's the Crime).]
The next town is, [leaving the horses on autopilot for a second, fumbling with the map, unfurling it over their laps and pointing,] there, so we'll have to camp out once... mmm, maybe twice if we take some frequent breaks for the animals. The cart isn't that heavy, but they'll need water and stuff. We can sleep in the wagon, at least.
[Wolfwood leans over into Ain's space so he can look over the map for himself, humming lowly before exhaling a stream of smoke out of the corner of his mouth, watching as it gets whipped away by the wind.]
We're lucky we can, cause it's gonna get fuckin' cold out here when the sun sets.
[Oh noooo they'll have to cuddle up in the sleeping bags to stay warm what will they doooo.]
Just make sure you find some rocks for us to camp beside. It's not likely we'll run into anyone else on this stretch, but the last place you wanna be parked is out in the open where bandits can rob you blind.
Haha... you sure know how to tell me things I already know.
[He will not ask, because Ain knows this as well. Hard not to. Wolfwood is a bit of a mansplainer, but that's okay, he said he'd make Ain food. And his dick is huge. And maybe that justifies it a little (it does not but whatever).
Either way... the day will pass by in relative peace, at least. They'll stop to water the creatures and take breaks and sightsee (ooh rocks ooh cactus ooh sand), take another stop, switch off drivers, whatever... and then the sun will start to set, and that means it's time to stop for the night and rest. Blah blah travelling.
Ain's gonna bother Wolfwood to cook because he's a little shitlord.]
[He's a straight(?) man in the old west. If he didn't mansplain to you, he'd simply blow up and die.
He WILL continue to do this throughout their trip, but it's fine. Eventually he'll shut up as he takes his turn to drive, realizing as they go that compared to his time with his gang, this is definitely the calmest wagon ride he's ever been on.
Anyway, sunset rolls around, which means its time for dinner. They pull the wagon up next to a rocky outcropping, sort of nestling beneath it to stay out of prying eyes. They will need to make a campfire, but the rock should at least block some of the light. Wolfwood, meanwhile, is pulling out his pistol and making sure its loaded.]
Gonna take Angelina down a ways and see if I can't find some rabbits. Pull out the pot and get some hot water goin' while I'm gone. Won't be long.
Ooh~. My big, tough man protecting me and making sure I don't have to do the dirty work.
[Sorry Wolfwood are you emotionally prepared to deal with Ain? Because he's about to get worse, now that there's no one around. He's still thinking about putting Wolfwood on a leash, but... that's for after dinner. That's for when they're cold and Ain's like oooh let me keep you warrrrm.
Anyway, he will do as instructed, taking water from a nearby river and starting a campfire and boiling it. Boiling gets out the bad, and they won't have to dip into their supply of canteen water. All in all, a good thing.
Elria, meanwhile, is just happy to be here. She will nibble on Ain's hair as he contemplates life.]
...gotta get rid of him at some point, [he says, when they're definitely alone,] don't need him around with all the trouble I get into. Ugh... girl, you wouldn't understand what it's like to want to corrupt a man and take him for all he's worth. I was going to do that last night.
[Elria just keeps nibbling on his hair. She's onto you.]
I want to ruin his life. [Yeah.] And I want to ride him. Ugh!!
[Good to know they're mutually pining for each other in drastically different ways. Ain is trying to cope with needing to get rid of Wolfwood while also wanting to fuck him, while Wolfwood is trying to cope with being gay while also needing to arrest Ain. They're two halves of the same coin out here, truly.
At this time of night, a lot of animals come out because it's prime time for them to be skittering about when it's a lot cooler. He's done this enough times that he knows how to find the rabbits' burrows, how to stomp the ground in just the right places to encourage them to flee, and then how to pick them off once they're running. It might seem cruel, but they have to eat.
He gets two and finds the same river Ain did so he can clean them out there, meaning he returns with just the flesh in hand to their campsite. From there, he just has to grab some of the stuff they bought while back in town. Their veggies, starch, and stock for the pot: it all gets unceremoniously dumped in with minimal chopping since they'll be eating this again later anyway, and the act of stewing it will break up a lot of it as it cooks.
Once he's finished getting the pot tended to and simmering, he'll finally take a seat next to the fire with a beleaguered sigh.]
Usually you'd wanna set a stew like this to simmer for two hours or more, but we can prolly eat sooner than that. Rabbit's a real lean meat too, so it'll cook up quick.
[Ain knows fucking nothing, okay, this is all Wolfwood's job. He will retain maybe 5% of this. He will retain 100% if Wolfwood ever goes away but uhhh... uhhhhhh. Anyway!
He scoots up close and leans against Wolfwood. He's warm and the fire is warm and the surrounding desert is starting to cool rapidly. Keep him warm you pretty piece of shit.]
I don't know anything about cooking, but I think you know that. I usually just spear the meat on a stick and cook it that way. It's gristly and tough and all, but it's not inedible. Food's food.
Well, like I said, once you've had it like this you ain't gonna want it any other way. Turns out the meat can actually have flavor.
[Because unfortunately, typically when you just cook it straight with no seasonings or anything added...it's not that good! Kinda bad actually, depending on what kind of meat it is. Bland cooking isn't in their future, fortunately, otherwise Wolfwood would simply have to give up after how long he's been cooking outdoors like this.
Miraculously, he doesn't try to get away from Ain as he leans in against his side. He just allows it, using the rock face for support as he leans back against it. Now Ain can really cuddle, if he wants.]
[Ohhhh Ain wants cuddle (he should not want cuddle) he is literally lifting one of Wolfwood's arms up and putting it around his shoulders. Cuddle. :) At some point he gave the man his hat back too, of course, but right now it's time for to be warm.
He's tracing little patterns into Wolfwood's skin over his exposed chest. Nonsense patterns, but patterns nonetheless. Hiiii. You're so beautiful... wow...]
My own personal chef and bodyguard! However am I going to repay you, huh?

I told you it was naughty, too. You said you didn't think I was a good boy, and I guess that's true.

Date: 2024-05-12 02:43 am (UTC)[He says as Ain leans sideways into him, which prompts Wolfwood to remove his hat and once again plop it onto Ain's head.]
But I guess you do make a good point. Ridin' this far on just the horses would have been miserable as hell. This way, we can take turns drivin' and have breaks from the heat under the canopy.

Date: 2024-05-12 03:08 am (UTC)I've done it a million times before.

Date: 2024-05-12 03:29 am (UTC)We're lucky we can, cause it's gonna get fuckin' cold out here when the sun sets.
[Ask him how he knows.]

Date: 2024-05-12 03:38 am (UTC)[He will not ask, because Ain knows this as well.

Date: 2024-05-12 03:47 am (UTC)He WILL continue to do this throughout their trip, but it's fine.

Date: 2024-05-12 04:02 am (UTC)[Sorry Wolfwood are you emotionally prepared to deal with Ain?
Ugh!!
[Ain is not okay right now.]

Date: 2024-05-12 04:14 am (UTC)At this time of night, a lot of animals come out because it's prime time for them to be skittering about when it's a lot cooler.

Date: 2024-05-12 04:22 am (UTC)[Ain knows fucking nothing, okay, this is all Wolfwood's job.
Food's food.
no subject
Date: 2024-05-12 04:30 am (UTC)[Because unfortunately, typically when you just cook it straight with no seasonings or anything added...it's not that good!

Date: 2024-05-12 04:38 am (UTC)He's tracing little patterns into Wolfwood's skin over his exposed chest. Nonsense patterns, but patterns nonetheless. Hiiii. You're so beautiful... wow...]
My own personal chef and bodyguard! However am I going to repay you, huh?
